Scanner Darkly
I went to go see Constatine starring everyones favorite Keanu Reeves last night, which I thought was pretty good (but thats another story). However, I was very intrigued by the preview for Scanner Darkly, also starring Keanu, Winona Rider, Robert Downey Jr., and Woody Harrelson. The movie is being directed by Richard Linklater and is a suposdely a faithful adaptation of PKD's novel of the same name. I have heard great things about the novel, but what is so interesting about the film as that it is acutally an animation. The movie is filmed and then by a process of rotoscoping it is animated. The result, which is very visually interesting, is an animation but it includes the nuances of an actors/actresses performance that a typical animation may not have. One of Linklater's previous films, Waking Life, used this process also, but the software used by the animators has apparantly been improved on. So, I look forward to seeing the movie when it comes out.
Unfortunatly, they did not use Charlie Kaufman's script.
