I went to go see Constatine starring everyones favorite Keanu Reeves last night, which I thought was pretty good (but thats another story). However, I was very intrigued by the preview for Scanner Darkly, also starring Keanu, Winona Rider, Robert Downey Jr., and Woody Harrelson. The movie is being directed by Richard Linklater and is a suposdely a faithful adaptation of PKD's novel of the same name. I have heard great things about the novel, but what is so interesting about the film as that it is acutally an animation. The movie is filmed and then by a process of rotoscoping it is animated. The result, which is very visually interesting, is an animation but it includes the nuances of an actors/actresses performance that a typical animation may not have. More information on the rotoscoping of "Scanner Darkly" can be found here. One of Linklater's previous films, Waking Life, used this process also, but the software used by the animators has apparantly been improved on. So, I look forward to seeing the movie when it comes out.
Unfortunatly, they did not use Charlie Kaufman's script.
