Hmmm. The more I see that title, the funnier I think it is. Yes, this post is about a viral video regarding Microsoft, but it is easy to see that Microsoft itself is a virus, and that Microsoft tends to attract viruses. It's great on so many levels, but mostly, it's funny because it's true.
EC & The Attractions interrupt 'Less Than Zero' and opt for this little classic instead. Subsequently, Costello was banned from SNL for 12 years. NBC and the show's producer Lorne Michaels didn't want Costello to perform 'Radio, Radio,' since it was an 'anti-media' song. Costello defied them by beginning to play 'Less Than Zero', stopping, telling the audience that there was no reason to do that song, and then launching into 'Radio, Radio'. Besides the defiance, it also infuriated Michaels because it put the show off schedule. Costello was finally invited to come back and play in 1989, and even reenacted his act of defiance on the 25th Anniversary Show with the Beastie Boys in 1999.
Who says a geeky guy in Buddy Holly glasses can't be punk rock?
Allow me to point out what makes the MS-Ipod box video so fantastic. It features one of the many wonderful songs on this soundtrack (this one is called "breakfast machine.")
