News on social security shows the republicans are trying to back away from Bush's SS reform plan. I particularly like this quote:
And Santorum [Sen. Rick Santorum (news, bio, voting record) (R-Pa.)] insisted that Congress cannot walk away from the Social Security issue, because the president wants it addressed. "He is like, you know, a pit bull and he's got a pair of trousers in his mouth and he's not going to let go," Santorum said of Bush.
Also, I was reading Andrew Tobias's book The Only Investment Guide You'll Ever Need last night and he has a nice little section in the appendix about social security reform, and how private savings accounts are a bad idea. I highly recommend his book, it's brief, simple, and very interesting to read.
Although it's interesting to see that G-Dub is starting to piss of "his base" (aka "right-wing nutjobs").
Case in point - this weekend I nearly soiled myself because I agreed with everything Pat Buchanan had to say on "Meet the Press." Literally, everything. You can read the full transcript here or see what one of my slightly-right leaning professors thought - Ann Althouse.
