Hewlett-Packard and Advanced Micro Devices on Friday announced a new notebook to raise funds for the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
The HP Special Edition L2000 Notebook will sport the Livestrong logo, along with a copy of Armstrong's autograph on the keyboard, the companies said. The 64-bit notebook, expected to be available in June, is powered by AMD's Turion 64 and features enhanced battery life.
HP said it will contribute $50 to the foundation from each new notebook sold. AMD has committed to generate a minimum of $4 million for the LAF from this initiative over two years. In addition, HP will include a popular yellow Livestrong wristband, to be packaged with yellow stereo ear buds with every notebook.
OK, that is cool that they are giving $50 from every laptop purchase to research cancer. But I bet HP will actually be making extra money on the deal from increased sales, which suddenly doesn't make this whole deal feel so "charitable." Additionally, "Buy a $2000 computer and get a free bracelet!!!! ($1 value)." Wow.
