So I was flipping channels at ~2:10 am last night when I stumbled across something...stoners running around singing, is that a rip off of Jesus Christ Superstar, with Jack Black and David Cross...WTF? I had to look it up a found this.
Mr. Show with Bob and David was an HBO show that ran from 1995 to 1998, how did I miss this? [aside]Probably because I didn't have access to cable television until college, and even then I didn't have HBO.[/aside] So it was a sketch comedy show with Bob Odenkirk and David Cross that all the sketches during the show are tied together, so its seperate parts that continue a theme of some kind. I saw about the last ten minutes of the show and was thoroughly confused...not so much funny as freakin' weird, but maybe it would have made more sense if I had seen the beginning. I'd like to see a whole show to see what this is all about.
On an semi-related note: it looks like Bob has done a lot of work with Tenacious D; who has something new coming out.
In Venice Beach, naive Midwesterner JB (Black) bonds with local slacker KG (Glass) and they form the rock band Tenacious D. Setting out to become the world's greatest band is no easy feat, so they set out to steal what could be the answer to their prayers -- a magical guitar pick housed in a rock-and-roll museum some 300 miles away.
Cast includes: Jack Black and Kyle Gass (KG) of course, also, Jason Reed, Tim Robbins, Ben Stiller, Amy Poehler, Meat Loaf...oh hell yes! Check out more at the official movie website.
Aaah, I guess JP and I never got around to introducing you to Mr. Show. Sorry about that.
I first saw the light when I was working after college, a friend/co-worker made me (and hence, JPV) watch season one on DVD. And it turned out to be hilarious.
Gotta love David Cross, and Bob Odenkirk isn't exactly horrible either.
