And now I've found the true test of his resolve - JP, can you stomach watching the Strokes turn a high energy political stomper by a legendary band into a drug/alcohol induced tired cover?
I still like the Strokes, but this was one horrible choice for a cover. The Strokes aren't known for their passion, politics, or high energy. Quite the contrary, actually. But who knows, perhaps this animosity is just because they are covering one of my favorite Clash songs of all time.
That was a putrid cover. I don't know if I am on the bandwagon, but I was pleasantly suprised by what I heard on the Strokes' new album. At any rate, Clampdown is a good song among an album of elites. We we're listening to it in the car and we make it to that song, about track 10 or so, and K, previously silent, knows and sings every word to Clampdown. I was a little curious as to how she didn't know other great songs, like London Calling or Rudie Can't Fail, but all of the lesser-known Clampdown. The answer: the Indigo Girls did a cover. U.S.A.!
